This song is sung on the Feast of the Transfiguration which commemorates when Jesus Christ was Transfigured on Mt Tabor. It is commemorated on August 6 in the Orthodox church even though this event in the life of Christ has been described as the bridge between Jesus’ public ministry and his passion, nonetheless, it is not celebrated chronologically in the life of Christ as are some other feasts. If this were the case, it would be celebrated before Palm Sunday, the crucifixion and the resurrection.
